SOS and the Somerville Arts Council are looking for art on the theme of “Re” for the Inside-Out Gallery, in the windows of the Davis Square CVS. We ask applicants to explore ways the art can thrive, grow, bloom, or attract attention. Deadline for submissions is Friday, April 3, 2026.
Details
CVS Windows • One Davis Square
April 17 – May 12, 2026
Submission deadline: Friday, April 3The Somerville Arts Council’s Inside-OUT Gallery seeks works that showcases the breadth of talent of our creative community.
This year, Somerville Open Studios, the Somerville Arts Council and the Inside-OUT Gallery once again welcome seasoned members and newcomers alike to submit pieces for the annual SOS members’ exhibit. While all works will be considered, we do encourage applicants to respond to this year’s theme.
To apply, go to the exhibit application form, https://forms.gle/t7kRCrt8XNSWUDPVA . Deadline is Friday, April 3.
Exhibit Theme: Reflecting on “RE”
This May, SOS is revving up for another citywide art extravaganza. With over 400 artists participating, Open Studios reflects on a renewed energy that can be seen at every corner of our 4 square mile little city. Whether it’s funky installations, dynamic projections or bold visual art, our creative community is rebounding with its trademark vigor.
Art is transitional, ebbing and flowing with the changing tides. As artists, we are observers and respond by our surroundings. This year, Somerville Open Studios explores this concept with its open-ended existential theme “RE” and its various uses. “Re”, by definition, can mean “again,” “back,” or “anew” as well signaling the repetition of an action (e.g., redo, rebuild) or a backward motion/reversal (e.g., reflect, return).
Artists are invited to interpret this theme in a variety of ways– such as resplendent landscapes and bold abstracts, reflecting on daily life, remix/repurposing past projects, decorative depictions signifying renewal, or exploring the current resistance movement. Whatever the medium, we look forward to seeing your creative interpretations of the theme.
So, it’s time to relish the moment and burst forth into another exciting Somerville Open Studios season. Rediscover your muse and share your style in this highly visible art show, on view from April 17- May 12.
This is a closed call for all current SOS member artists. Both participating and sustaining members may submit work. Please note that this is a juried exhibition and not all submitted work will be accepted.
To apply, go to the exhibit application form, https://forms.gle/t7kRCrt8XNSWUDPVA . Deadline is Friday, April 3.

Crystal Ballroom • 55 Davis Square (Somerville Theatre building)
Thursday, April 30, 2026 • Doors open 6 pm, show begins at 7 pmThe term Artwear refers to clothing and other wearables designed as conceptual or fine art. Artwear operates outside of the boundaries normally presented in fashion to favor an approach that prioritizes style and vision. This show makes it possible for textile artists to be included in open studios in a way that is more conducive to their art form than a studio opening or a gallery.
This year, the SOS fashion show will once again be held at the Crystal Ballroom in Davis Square on Thursday, April 30, 2026. The Crystal Ballroom is directly above the Somerville Theatre. Doors open at 6pm for cocktail hour with the show beginning at 7pm; seating is first come, first served. The venue will have a full bar and runway seating. The event is free for the public to view original textile art by Somerville artists!

The fourth annual SOS Locavore Show at Neighborhood Produce in Ball Square will run from April 27-May 10, 2026. The theme of this show is “Resist”. Both two- and three-dimensional works that don’t exceed 12″x12″ will be considered. Artists are also invited to provide a statement about “resist” . Submission deadline is April 8, 2026.
Details
Submission deadline: Wednesday, April 8, 2026
“Resist”, according to the dictionary, is “something (such as a coating) that protects against a chemical, electrical, or physical action”. We resist in art to make something more interesting and beautiful (like using wax to stop the spread of a glaze in ceramics). We resist in life to stop the spread of hurtful practices and ideas. We invite you to resist in any and all senses of the word in our fourth annual Neighborhood Produce Locavore show.We will consider all artistic expressions of “resist” with a small show at the Ball Square Neighborhood Produce location that will be seen through the corner window at the intersection of Broadway and Boston Ave. Submissions may be literal or symbolic, representational or abstract, painted, drawn, sculpted, photographic or multi-media. Submissions should not exceed 12”x12”x12” since the space is small. If anyone would like to provide a statement about what “Resist” means to them in addition to their artwork, we will display that as well.
This is a closed call for artists that are registered for SOS 2026. Please note that this is a juried exhibition and not all submitted work will be accepted.
Applicants’ work must be available from April 20-May 11. 2026.
