The Wall of Fears: a digital installation of 1,000 fears
Somerville Museum • 1 Westwood Road (Map #E5)
On view as part of the SOS First Look Exhibit
Meet artist Karin Anell on Saturday May 3rd from noon-2 pm
This installation aims to start a conversation about fear and make people feel less alone. It represents a pulse check on the collective emotional psyche at a moment in time. From spring of 2022 to early fall 2024, 1,000 people across the world were asked what their biggest fear is. Close to 500 personal interviews were carried out in Greater Boston, most of them in Somerville.
Enjoy a large projection of the 1,000 fears on an actual wall at the Somerville Museum. It is there for you to observe, contemplate, perhaps share the experience with a friend. As you watch this wall, you are already a part of the project. You may find your own fear here. And perhaps you will turn to a friend and ask: Tell me, what is it that you fear most?
The Wall of Fears can also be experienced at the artist’s home at 37 Gorham Street (Map #13) during SOS weekend from 2:30 – 6pm on Saturday and 12 – 6pm on Sunday.
The Wall of Fears is presented by Karin Anell with support from an SOS 2025 Program Grant.
