Call for Art: 2023 Locavore Show – Good Enough to Eat!

Locavore shows (themed shows at public venues) are returning to SOS in 2023! This year’s theme is Good Enough to Eat!

Whether we have too much, just enough or too little, food is a crucial part of our daily lives.  Here in Somerville we are lucky to have food from all over the world, available all year, which we can find at supermarkets, neighborhood markets, food pantries, farmers markets and community fridges. Food brings us together with its luscious smells, textures and variety and also with the community working together to ensure that everyone has enough to eat.

The focus of this Locavore show, to be held at Neighborhood Produce, 691 Broadway in Ball Square, is on groceries and provision of food.  This includes portrayal of the food itself, as well as food insecurity, sourcing food, shopping or providing food.  Submissions may be literal or symbolic, representational or abstract, painted, drawn, sculpted, photographic or multi-media. The show will be on display from April 29 to May 14, 2023.

Submissions should not exceed 12”x12”x12”, because the space is small (to the left and right of the front door of the store).

This is a closed call for artists that are registered for SOS 2023. Please note that this is a juried exhibition and not all submitted work will be accepted.

Applicants’ work must be available from April 28-May 15, 2023.

Submissions should include:

Up to 5 JPEGs of the available work you would like to show (maximum 1200 pixels in length), and the following information should accompany each image:
