Artist's Statement
For me, paintings are first and foremost things, beings even, not images. I make process-based paintings and drawings that aim to embody moments of tenderness, humor and connection.
I'm drawn to intimate, everyday imagery (girls, women, animals, plants, interiors) that suggest presence and the passage of time. Rooted in my evolving archive of drawings, personal snapshots, collected photos, and art historical sources, I treat paint itself as animate matter. As I layer and excavate paint, marks accumulate, disappear, and return again changed. The painting emerges through this process of revision and transformation. Passages of transparent washes contrast with impasto strokes, creating spatial tension and a tactile, living presence. Ephemerality, cyclical time, and the act of seeing are currents in the work. Everything is in flux until it’s not.
