Artist's Statement

My work draws from abstractions of the natural work to explore movement, texture and color. 

My first medium is fabric and quilted textiles, using intricate patchwork.  I primarily work in abstracted natural forms, but have also explored bright geometrics and traditional patterns.  Textiles appeal strongly to me since they are art you can hug, art that can be part of day to day living on your couch or bed.

My second medium is encaustic painting, which is pigment bound in wax.  I'm fascinated by the fluid properties of the wax as it warms and cools, the occasional transparent depths and th textural possiblities which mirror the visual properties of natural forms.
