Organic hand-built ceramics

Artist's Statement
I am a local ceramic artist working out of Mudflat Studios, where I have been developing my handbuilt practice for over three years. My work consists of sculptural vases, bowls, cups, and tea bowls that explore organic form, surface, and earthy color.
Inspired by Japanese techniques such as kurinuki, I focus on carving and building processes that reveal texture and emphasize the natural movement of clay. I am drawn to the material’s responsiveness—how it stretches, fractures, and holds memory through touch. My work seeks to highlight these qualities while balancing sculptural presence with function, creating pieces that are both tactile objects and usable forms.
