My name is Jane Goldman, a founding partner of Mixit Print Studio. My art practice addresses the transformative power of light, on all levels. I work with imagery rooted in the natural world: the ocean, tidal pools, complex still lives, where light creates shadows and reflections, that are as important as the objects depicted. I'm also fascinated by the invisible world made visible through technology that expands human vision: on the cosmic scale, galaxies and heavenly bodies; on the microscopic scale, magnified life forms such as diatoms.
I paint in watercolor for its translucent qualities so integral to layering, and its ability to depict colored light“Teetering on the Edge” is from my series Eco-anxiety /Global Warming (2018-2023) Dark humor sets the tone, inspired by silent film comedians, especially the great Buster Keaton. In this context the silent comedians represent all of us, experiencing global crises in slow motion.I paint in watercolor for its translucent qualities so integral to layering, and its ability to depict colored light.
Watercolor monotype expands the layering aspects of watercolor, and unique characteristics, you can make marks that don't look like anything else. Working on a press merges the physical interactions of water, color, and gravity: I can create prints that appear to arrest the motion of water and make gravity tangible, make seen what’s unseen.
