Artist's Statement
Daniel Lloyd-Miller is a painter uniting observation, diary and motif. Testing the theory that an idea only kindles the work, Lloyd-Miller aims to surpass the premise into more psychological terms, where place and figure recede into space and shape. Limp clothes form motifs of resignation but also possibility; hands grasp, wood reinforces; forms border on floating symbols. These explorations are counterbalanced by his dedicated practice of looking and recording, often the citizens of public transit espied from a safe distance or from behind. Formal means of watching and recording the everyday allow him to ingest, synthesize, and reflect.
