Textile Wall Art

Artist's Statement
My name is Jacob Keven and in my artistic practice I combine quilting, couture, and sculpture techniques to create art with an emphasis on color and texture. I strive to be mindful of waste in my practice. I use reclaimed materials whenever possible and exclusively use secondhand fabric. None of the fabric that comes into my studio is sent to a landfill. It is all used through patchwork or stuffing.
I love creating pieces that are colorful and tactile. In my current practice, I’ve focused on creating a collection of elevated and mature queer pride flags. This collection started with a piece I made for myself shortly after I began sewing. After building my textile skills over five years, I was ready to begin this collection with intentionality. I’ve spent the last two years crafting this collection that celebrates queer pride and have fully enjoyed the process. Creating this collection has helped me learn and experiment in ways I would’ve never dreamed of when I first started. I’m excited to share the results of this work with you and hope you love it as much as I do!
