Artist's Statement
Leonard Cohen once said, "There is a crack in everything; that's how the light gets in."
I came to art kicking and screaming, despite the best efforts of my friends and family. Capturing the world always appealed to me, but it felt like something open to others, not to myself. This all changed when I found my grandfather's old film cameras and began to shoot with them. The act of capturing light on paper was, on one hand, a way to connect to my grandfather and, on another, a way for me to show people pieces of how I see the world.
Due to the medium's cost and time-inefficiency, every moment and person I shoot is imprinted not only on the film but also on my mind. This allows for an extremely intimate and intentional experience which I have been unable to reproduce elsewhere.
