Artist's Statement

Ella von Huene is an oil painter from Boston Massachusetts, exploring aspects of human psyche through etherial, dark, and sometimes boardering-on-comical depictions of the human form. Ella takes on abstracted approach, tying flashy color and industrial materiality to depictions that are haunting, yet resonant of a soft and child-like state of mind. The portrayals are powerfully grounded but also vulnerable in their apparent discontent.  Ella's portraits tie emotional visuals to a sense general decay, confronting humanities tendency to default to the "this is fine" mentality. Finding the natural beauty in pining for a better way of life, is Ella's primary artistic goal, and her hope is that her work motivates others not to seek peace, but rather a motivation to unabashedly aspire to a more common good.

Ella graduated with a B.A. in painting, in 2023, From the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where she served on the Board of Trustees, and also as a Student Gallery Manager. In 2023, she won the Roger Tibbetts Auction Award, and in 2022, the Golden departmental Award; She also worked as a Student Gallery Manager, and Curated several shows. She recently had her first post-graduate solo show, courtesy of the Juliet Lockwood Studios, in Worcester MA, as well as in the following group show :Form. In her day to day life Ella works in Human Services, and uses her art as a means for reflection and investigation of how we can all take each other into better consideration.
