Artist's Statement

I am an illustrator based in Medford, MA. I love making portraits of people and pets, drawing plants and things I find outside, and designing promotional materials for organizations that adhere to my values. I am also a pre-published children’s book author/illustrator.

Art is central to my very being. As a kid, I felt it was surely destined to be a meaningful part of my life. I nevertheless took a long and unexpected hiatus from it starting in college where, to my great surprise, I fell in love with biology. Motivated by an inexorable fear of the ecological collapse of our planet and a steady pressure to conform to a more conventional career path, I went on to attain advanced degrees in sustainable food systems and environmental health. I worked in that field for 8 years, finding some artistic outlet in data visualization projects. But something was missing… Somewhere between having two babies and wallowing in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, my priories began to refocus; I quit my job and rediscovered art.

I am unendingly enthralled by the natural world and love sharing that wonder with whoever will listen, especially my two amazing daughters.
