Artist's Statement
I will never see my heart. I have not met my steak. I turned a person into my mother. I will never be alive.
I explore these internal dialogues through surreal kitsch, pastel neons, and the mass produced. Through the populist, feminine form of melodrama I process the enormity of the everyday: anxieties about motherhood, the guilt of watching reality tv, our capitalist detachments from the acts of eating, sleeping, and loving. The native language of my work is color, its variation and tenuous relationship with realism transporting my works into the subconscious.
My paintings are dream-journal, surrealistic sketches. My artists books are modernist, vibrant anthologies. My printmaking is as much about consumption as it is about production.
