Hand marbled papers

Artist's Statement
I’m drawn to marbling by the interplay of art and craft, control and chance, and by the requirement to go in with confidence and know the right moment to stop. There is an irreversibility to stirring paint on top of water!
I make a wide range of papers—beyond the guarantee that no two sheets will be identical no matter how hard I try, I enjoy exploring a range of ideas, techniques, scales, and subjects. Some papers use the traditional decorative patterns developed for the book arts, while others are figurative, experimental, or both. I keep papers that “haven’t worked out” and often find there is a beauty to them as they dry and my eye becomes used to their unique features.
Taken as a whole, my body of work poses a question to the viewer: What do you want to do with this paper? Which pieces are for display in frames? Which would you use to cover a journal or mat a picture? Which are the raw materials for your own art?
