Artist's Statement
Hi there, I'm Quintin Marcus, the creative mind behind Yarnqueer, and a proud queer artist currently living in Somerville, Massachusetts, specializing in rugmaking and clothing.
My mission with Yarnqueer is simple: to infuse a burst of rainbow, color, and magic into your life, whether that be in your wardrobe or in your home.
Growing up, I was surrounded by yarn and art. My mother would craft sweaters, tapestries, and all manner of things that dotted the house and my wardrobe. My father, a musician, would play strange melodies as I drifted off to sleep. Art and expression was all around me, but it took some time for me to come to terms with my own identity and expression of it. Art allowed me to express who I was without facing the pressure and realities of saying "I'm queer" out loud.
That's why the name Yarnqueer feels like a perfect fit— it's a tribute to the colorful path my life has taken and who I have become, something I now take tremendous pride in.
Thank you for joining me on this colorful journey! ❤️
