Artist's Statement

As a teenager my high school painting teacher asked me to promise that I would continue painting throughout my life, but other things got in the way.

I am an architect returning to painting after 25 years. I find some things come back easily; some are completely new. My work includes exploring multiple techniques and media, especially oil painting, charcoal, and pencil, but all rooted in the study of my journey to see the world anew.

My still life and life drawing studies focus on bringing the energy of a scene to the canvas or page. This is the documentation of a journey where the destination is unknown.
