Artist's Statement

I am currently building a Swampscott 18' Surf dory in my back yard. The design is from Lowell's Boat Shop in Amesbury, MA. The plans were augmented with a full CAD design. This is the intended hull for the Gray 3 H.P. gas engine shown in the pictures. Swampscott dories have a long history in the Mass. Bay area. They were first used with sails and oars only but with the introduction of the first gas engines near the beginning of the 20th century they were modified for power. 

I may start the 1907 Gray one-lunger during S.O.S. if not too loud for neighbors.
