Artist's Statement

Inspiration for Haleh Fotowat’s work comes from unpredictability, urgency, continuity, beauty, humor, and enthusiasm that is omnipresent in all forms of life. Her painting process consists of spontaneous, uninhibited drawing of shapes, trajectories, words, and numbers. She often listens to improvised jazz music while she works, letting her hand go free, as she watches, listens to, and encourages conversations between individual elements that emerge in the painting and as they eventually develop into a coherent ‘life form’.
