Artist's Statement

My 2025 artist statement reflects my deep commitment to exploring the creative process—both alone and in collaboration with other self-taught artists and makers. A foundational principle of my practice is the intentional use of words that uplift, evoke, and inspire. I want my art to emerge not from contentiousness, jealousy, greed, exclusion, or fear, but from expressions and suggestions that tease out what is playful, blithesome, enchanting, fearless, and wonderfully incomplete.

Through these pieces, we embrace the unexpected joy found in errors, mistakes, surprises, and moments of good fortune—honoring what we did not intend and could not anticipate. This openness to the unpredictable transforms our practice into a space of discovery, where accidents are not failures but essential steps in revealing something new.

Our work draws from diverse sources—memories, fleeting snapshots, storytelling, folk tales, and mythology—using these narratives to better understand and make sense of the world. We create not as a means of controlling or defining, but as a way of engaging with the unknown, allowing meaning to remain fluid, shifting with each interaction.

At the heart of my practice is the belief that art-making should be unimpeded—an open, intuitive process shaped by curiosity, play, and shared creativity. Through collaboration, I engage in a dynamic exchange of ideas, where each artist’s perspective enriches and transforms the work. This communal approach fosters a spirit of discovery, reinforcing the idea that meaning is not fixed but continually evolving through interaction and reinterpretation.

By weaving together personal experiences, collective histories, and imaginative storytelling, my work becomes a reflection of both individual and shared perspectives. It is a celebration of connection, improvisation, and the ways in which artistic expression helps us navigate and reshape our understanding of the world.
