Artist's Statement

Hayward Zwerling designs and builds woodworking creations that are intended to engage the viewer emotionally or intellectually. He is less interested in creating the perfect dovetail and more interested in engaging in the creative process itself.

His picture frames challenge the concept that a "frame;" is a frame intend to only enhance the contained painting or is the frame art in its own right, which can alter the conversation between the viewer and the picture/frame combination.

His furniture creations are intended to push the design of furniture beyond the mundane and utilitarian.
