Artist's Statement

Julia is an artist and illustrator living and working in Somerville, MA. In her work, Emiliani examines the documentation of everyday objects. Drawing from experience as a commercial artist, Emiliani finds inspiration in her surroundings and uses fields of gradients, flat color, and Instagram-like compositions to juxapose her subject matter. In their careful depiction, Emiliani uses painting as a means of meditating on a single moment to foster an experience slowing down through observation. When she’s not painting, you can find Julia dreaming of fashion, trying to be a good plant mom, or managing her Etsy shop of illustrated goods called Over it Studio.
