Artist Bio
Morgane Mathews is a self-taught photographer who was born in Mexico City and grew up in Paris and Montreal. She has been living in Somerville, Massachusetts for the past twenty years with her three daughters, husband, and dog.
Photographing places is Morgane’s first love. She doesn’t try to create literal representations as much as she tries to recreate the feeling of the place she’s photographing. Morgane edits her images to bring out the her unique vision through vibrant colors, crisp edges and strong lines. Consistently engaged by shapes, texture, and space, Morgane’s eye has primarily been drawn to landscapes and cityscapes, as well as architectural abstracts and organic shapes found in nature.
What entices her to create art is the notion that by capturing the world through her lens, she can share her appreciation for qualities like color, pattern, and shape, hoping this will resonate with others.
An active member of the Boston Camera Club, she has also shown her work in group exhibits at Gallery 4, the Griffin Museum, the Plymouth Center for the Arts and the Praxis Gallery.
When not behind the lens, she enjoys transmitting and sharing her culture by giving private French and Spanish classes.
