Artist's Statement

I discovered painting after a career in education, writing, and public speaking. Through painting I have found a part of myself I never knew, where making art can spring not only from the mind but also from some inner creative force. Many powerful emotions can arise during the process of painting, creating an opportunity for self discovery that seems limitless.  I enjoy layering the paint and responding to what I see in a back-and-forth conversation with a painting as it slowly emerges.  I believe there is an artist inside every person, that we are all richer and better when we make art.
