Artist's Statement
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I believe that puppetry is a theatrical art form that embodies the poetry of dance and the fluidity of music. It is a kinetic visual world that relies less on language and more on metaphor to lead audiences down pathways to uncanny worlds that delight the senses, challenge the mind, and bite at the heart. I want my shows to make children squeal with delight and adults sigh with remembrance. Trained as an actor and visual artist, puppetry is the medium that allows me to scratch at my creative curiosity, stretch my artistic wings, and explore questions about our collective humanity.
ARTIST BIO:
Faye is a professional puppet artist with over 20 years of experience producing and touring original theatrical productions. She began her puppet journey over twenty years ago when she met and apprenticed under her childhood hero, Canadian puppeteer Noreen Young. Since then, she has performed around the world and has worked as a director, designer and educator throughout Eastern Canada and the USA. As the founding Artistic Director of “Cozy Arts” she collaborates with multiple artists and child development specialists to create in-person and virtual puppet resources for family audiences. She holds a BFA in "Theater for Development" and an MFA in "Puppetry Arts."
COZY ARTS:
is dedicated to creating original puppet productions and educational resources that invite children, and their adults, to cultivate trusting relationships, welcoming communities and a healthy planet. Through our Cozy Corner series, we present interactive puppet performances that explore the inner lives of children and the meaning of community. By engaging children’s innate curiosity and creativity, we help cultivate the insights, qualities and skills children need to find their unique path in the context of family, friendship and community.
