Exhibit Theme: “The Book as Art – Unbound“
Submission deadline: extended to April 17, 2024
Hand-made books, book illustration, book art, zines etc. We are seeking art that uses the book as content and/or medium to explore and transform our idea of what a book can be. This is not a sketch book show but if your sketch book is based on books we might consider your submission.
Art will be mounted on a wall and displayed in a case so please consider the weight and width of your submission. If you have any questions please email soslocavore@gmail.com.
This is a closed call for 2024 SOS member artists. Both participating and sustaining 2024 members are welcome to submit. Please note that this is a juried exhibition and not all submitted work will be accepted.
Applicants’ work must be available from April 25-May 28 and be hanging-ready.
Submissions: Please send up to 3 JPEGs of the available work along with the following information for each image:
- Artist name & Contact Info (phone & e-mail)
- Title of the piece
- Description of Medium
- Complete accurate dimensions (length, width, depth)

A few delightful bookish cue words for ruminating:
Bibliomania – extreme preoccupation with collecting books
Florilegium – a volume of writings; an anthology
Librocubicularist – someone who likes to read in bed
Dithyramb – a usually short poem in an inspired wild irregular strain
Book-bosomed – taken to carrying a book at all times.
Bibliotherapy – use of reading materials for help in solving personal problems or for psychiatric therapy
Omnilegent – reading or having to read everything; characterized by encyclopedic reading
Bookery – bookstore
Biblioklept – one who steals books (but not from our community library!)
