Community Space
While Somerville Open Studios is based on the concept of artists showing their work where it is created, we recognize that not all artists have suitable studio space that they are comfortable opening to the public. The SOS Community Space program allows Somerville residents who are reluctant to exhibit in their home an opportunity to participate by exhibiting in a public space with other artists.
2012 Community Space
There are costs associated with the use of community exhibition space. In an effort to control costs, SOS has elected to subsidize a portion of the space rental fee, but we ask artists using community space to share in this expense.
The 2012 community space is at a location TBD
The 2012 community space fee is $45. This is in addition to the $55 Event Participation Membership.
If you would like to exhibit using community Space, please note:
- You must select “Event Participation Membership with Community Space” option when you register.
- Spaces are limited and allocated on a first come - first served basis. In the event that available spaces fill, the option to select community space will no longer be available.
- Artists may display at and be listed at only one location; one cannot register at both community space and an additional location.
- Artists are responsible for display/hanging of their work according to guidelines set by the site coordinator. While this is a large space, hangers or similar items can be placed at only limited areas.
Alternatives to Community Space
If do not have a suitable place to exhibit and for any reason you do not wish to or are unable to exhibit at this year’s community space at a location TBD, please contact communityspace@somervilleopenstudios.org. We will provide what assistance we can by providing a list of businesses, galleries and offices that have welcomed SOS artists in the past at no cost. Artists would be responsible for approaching these venues for SOS and making all arrangements.
