Dear Artists and Art
Supporters,
Here we go... SOS 2010 is coming on
Saturday May 1 & Sunday May 2, 2010. If
you are an artist who wants to participate next
May, stay tuned: more information is coming about
when to renew membership and register for open
studios. For the moment, however, we'd like
to share some news on the SOS organization.
First, on behalf of the Board of
Directors, I'm pleased to announce that Peter
Belford has accepted the role of Event Coordinator
for SOS 2010. Peter is a Vernon Street
artist who has both participated in and taken an
active role in planning portions of SOS for many
years. He and Assistant Coordinator Terry
Dovidio have already started working with several
key volunteers to get the planning effort
started.
I would also like to thank outgoing
coordinator Nick Shectman for his two years of
dedicated service to the organization.
Nick has agreed to continued support to SOS as its
Treasurer.
Next, in an effort to ensure the continuation
of the organization behind the open studios event,
we have added several new members to the Board of
Directors. I thank both new and continuing
board members for their work in lending guidance
to those running the event each year.

We look forward to the 12th annual
Somerville Open Studios next year. Expect an
email invitation to the SOS 2010 Kick Off Event on
Thursday, November 12. We'll send out
details shortly and hope you can join us as we
thank last year's dedicated volunteers, discuss
the planning effort ahead, and welcome any who
might consider becoming a part of this year's
enthusiastic volunteer team.
Thank you all for your continued support of
SOS.

Please Considering
Volunteering!!!
Each year a volunteer event committee is
formed to prepare for the event over an eight
month planning period. Only through the effort of
these dedicated supporters, artist and non-artist
alike, can open studios happen each year. We
are always in need of people to join the
committee, each taking on one or more aspects of
the event planning as a lead, co-lead or assistant
lead. This is completely a volunteer effort,
but the benefits are working with an enthusiastic
group who support the arts, gaining an
understanding of what it takes to make an event of
this scale a reality, and making a contribution to
improving the event. If you would consider
becoming part of this effort, whether you have a
particular area of expertise or would like to
learn one, please email Peter Belford, 2010 Event
Coordinator, at coordinator@somervilleopenstudios.org.
If you have only limited time
but would still like to be
involved, there are many ways we can use and need
your help. There are many smaller tasks that
need doing, starting in mid-November with flier
distribution to let other artists know it
will soon be time to register. As we get
closer to the event, we need people who can donate
even a few hours in the areas of map and flier
distribution in and out of town, fixing up /
putting up / taking down signage and map stands,
helping get event trolley's started on the right
foot, preparing the group exhibit run in
conjunction with SOS, exhibit reception help,
community space set up / take down, map proofing,
and more. If you would consider helping out
in this more limited fashion, please email volunteer@somervilleopenstudios.org. We
are currently looking for volunteer coordinators
to join the event committee, so we may have
trouble getting back to you immediately, but we
will absolutely keep you on our list of valued
volunteers.
Thank
you! | |
