My main interest lies in writing and shaping text in three dimensions. I also enjoy drawing with words in two dimensions. I have gravitated to glass because with this medium, words and forms seem to hang in air. For the last couple of years, I've worked with cold glass: sandblasting vases, panels, and "pages" with text or image. The pages are layered into books, where the words appear as sculptural forms. Recently I've started to incorporate high-fire enamels and kiln-formed glass, allowing layers of words to melt over and around one another. I see each of these pieces as an experiment, a means to explore the physical properties of glass or the sculptural possibilities of text. |
