I saw the recently published Shel Silverstein book, Everything On It, and read the poem, "Masks":

Masks

She had blue skin,
And so did he.
He kept it hid
And so did she.
They searched for blue
Their whole life through,
Then passed right by–
And never knew.

This poem and the accompanying sketch caught me and I began drawing in pen and ink, first a reproduction of the Silverstein sketch and then my own view of removing the mask and the consequences of being unmasked.

With pen and ink, I try to capture a moment, a fleeting feeling – wearing a beautiful dress and twirling around in joy, a moment of hesitation, humor in the incongruous.

My work in acrylics began as an exercise in interior decoration and exploration with color and then slowly, subtly morphed into self-expression and a desire to create.
