People ask what kind of work I do as an artist. Answering that is almost impossible, for visual art is just that: created for the eyes and very difficult to describe with words.
But I will try:
My work is all over the place. It is both representational and abstract. I use acrylic and oil paints and oxidized copper and pastels and charcoal and whatever I can find to make the paper or canvas surface come alive. Color is the most important part of all my paintings. I love the vibrant primaries - layered and opaque or tanslucent and fragile. I am currently working on a series called "A Horse of a Different Color." I am attempting to suggest a narrative, even if that narrative is a bit obscure. Often I only find the "story" as I am working. The paintings are full of hidden meanings but I try to make their surfaces vibrant and beautiful to the eye. My best hope is that the viewers will discern their own narratives.
Thornton Wilder said (in 1928):"Art is confession; art is the secret told. But art is not only the desire to tell one's secret; it is the desire to tell it and hide it at the same time."
