Welcome

Visit nearly 400 artists in over 100 venues who will open their homes and studios for the 14th Annual Somerville Open Studios Event on Friday, May 4 from 6pm - 9pm and Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6, 2012 from noon to 6 pm. During this free showcase for the arts, mid-career and emerging artists working across a broad spectrum of fine art styles and craft media will exhibit and sell their work to the public.

Mapbook

The mapbook cover this year is a striking photo by Mindy Nierenberg of the graffiti tag "beauty". When we decided to make this the cover we knew there was an informal collaboration between the anonymous "graffiti" artist and Mindy. We also half expected someone from our community to send us an email. Lo and behold... a friend of a friend of a friend has contacted us because we did not credit the "BEAUTY". The artist is a Somervillian and as of today we have not heard back so the credit remains unknown.

Volunteers Needed

If you have volunteered for SOS in 2011 or are signed up to volunteer for this year 2012, you are invited to submit one ready-to-hang piece of original new work, for the Volunteer Art Show at Bloc 11.

SOS is entirely dependent on individuals--artist and non-artist alike--who have chosen to be active in the Somerville arts community by volunteering their time and skills. SOS could not happen without a large collective effort that is largely invisible to many participating artists. Curious about how the event comes about? Want to be involved in planning and improving SOS? Just use the "enter your email address" box above. Even if you are already on our mailing list, you can still use this box to change your mailing preferences to include volunteering. You'll then be notified of monthly planning meetings and other opportunities to get involved.
